The OSU Alumni Club of Muskingum County will hold its 14th Annual Scholarship Auction on Thursday, June 20, at the VFW Post 1058, 1318 Putnam Avenue in Zanesville.  The event will include both live and silent auctions for a variety of sports memorabilia and other valuable merchandise donated by area businesses, organizations, and individuals, and will also feature Jonathan Waters, Director of The Ohio State University Marching and Athletic Bands, as the guest speaker of the evening. 

 Attendees can meet the man in charge of “The Best Damn Band in the Land” and responsible for the awesome formations and performances that have received worldwide acclaim.   Waters received his Bachelors of Music Education from Ohio State in 1999, and while serving as Graduate Assistant Director for the Marching Band, he earned two Masters Degrees in Music Education and Wind Band Conducting from OSU in 2001.  Officially named the OSU Band Director during the fall of 2012, Waters’ duties include writing shows, rehearsing, and conducting the Marching, Athletic, and Concert Bands.  He is an instructor of Instrumental Conducting, Brass Methods, and Marching Band Techniques, and has served as clinician and guest conductor for numerous middle School, high school, and college bands and for band festivals throughout the nation. 

The scholarship auction is open to the public, with all proceeds to benefit the Scholarship Fund of OSUACMC, which is a non-profit organization that provides numerous scholarships each year for deserving Muskingum County students enrolling at any campus of The Ohio State University.  Doors will open at 5:30pm for a reception and placing of silent auction bids.  The presentation of the club’s annual awards will occur at 7:00pm, as the recipients of the 2013 OSUACMC Outstanding Alumni Award and the Outstanding Friend of OSUACMC Award will be honored during a brief ceremonyDirector Waters will speak at 7:30, followed by the live auction at 8:00pm. 

A heavy hors d’oeuvres buffet and a variety of snacks will be served throughout the evening and a cash bar will be available.  Tickets for the event are $20 person or $175 for a corporate table of 8 seats and may be obtained at Tom’s Print Shop (710 Main Street), from club board members, or at the door the day of the event.
